Response to Course Material- Number Five

So we finished Halmet and I made it out alive. Too many sticky notes. Anyways, as hard as I find Shakespeare to read, I actually enjoyed this play. It was really intersting. I found it interesting how pretty much everything could be compared to a biblical story.
We watched one Hamlet movie all the way through. It was really interesting. I didn't really enjoy the whole movie and play idea combined. But overall, it gave me a better grasp on the story. Then we watched parts of a second Hamlet. That was the weirdest movie I have ever seen. Wearing all black all the time. Weird flashbacks, or I don't even know whats. Creepy up close face shots. It was all just too creepy for me.
We also started mood and atmosphere practice. Well, these are always fun and interesting. My class just always finds a way to make things...interesting... I think it is really good practice though, even if we do mess around sometimes. I think we do a fantastic job personally, even if we do write about monks having sex.

  1. Ah so that is your class who writes all those questionable poems! Some of those are interesting, indeed.
Was the second Hamlet that you are referring to the modern rendition of Hamlet? (Not the one we watched after finals, but the version where they were in "normal" clothes and Hamlet shot Polonius...) If so, I agree that it was kind of creepy-- the way that we felt like we were infringing on Hamlet's life with the use of the security camera angles, and how he would look right at the camera.
But if you're talking about the version that was set in the early 1900s or whatever with the castle as the setting, I didn't see that as creepy. In fact, that was my favorite version!

  2. Like Kenzie I was also not sure what you meant. Were referring to the version that was in the cool castle with all the mirrors or the modern one when describing the second movie we watched? Megan I agree with you that the movies help me understand the play better, but I personally didn't really like Hamlet. Despite all the deeper meanings, I felt like plot of Hamlet was much sloppier and kind of silly at times compared to the other works of Shakespeare we have read in other classes.

Yes our hour sure does always make our class writing samples interesting. One thing you could add is what you have learned from the mood and atmosphere practice.
