We finished Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. It was a really good play. I liked the movie a lot too. And after having a disussion about the play in class, it gave me a clearer understanding. Overall, I thought the play was more just going off of Hamlet. The fact that Ros. and Guil. are in limbo until characters from Hamlet enter shows this. The readings about the play and Stoppard's outlook really helped too.
We started Ceremony. I am not really too sure what to think about it. I am confused half the time as to what is going on. But we will have to see, it is only the first read. When Ms. Holmes said that it was a book with a lot of meaning and that it is really hard to get, I was concerned. Hopefull I will understand more as we discuss in class.
We have also been doing a closed prompt. After we talked about in class what the speech was about, I knew it was going to be trouble. I am sooo glad we get to rewrite it because my essay now is so awful. And having to grade myself has helped me realize what I really need to work on. I need to get the whole thesis paragraph down. I am sure I will get it down.
Hey Megan! Personally I didn't really like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead much at first because it seemed so plain. However, when analyzing it, I found out there was so much more meaning than I thought and that made it more interesting. I liked that we finally started reading a novel, because we can finally talk more in depth about things like narrative voice and author style. I agree that grading my own prompt with the guidelines has shown me what I need to work on, and how I can improve my essay.
ReplyDeleteHey Megan! I enjoyed Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead too. I thought it was a more interesting play than the other ones we read and watched especially because it connected to a previous play we had read. I was also confused about Ceremony too. I only started to see all the meaning Ms. Holmes was talking about when I started annotating the book.
ReplyDeleteI think the moral of the story which we can all agree on is THERES SO MUCH MEANING IN EVERYTHING! It seems like everything we've read can be taken deeper and deeper, and each book seems to add another level of complexity to it. Ceremony had the most complex symbolisms and meanings so far, and was the most difficult for me to fully understand. But like the other works, once I could get somewhat of a grasp on it I enjoyed it a lot more.
